The Claddagh
Ring
The Claddagh
Ring is a traditional Irish ring which features a heart held in
two hands and crested by a crown. It is said to be of medieval origins
and is named after a small fishing village, called The Claddagh,
on the shores of Galway Bay in Ireland. The ring signifies, according
to the legend, the motto, "Let love and friendship reighn."
The Irish give them at birthdays, for the first communions and,
as originally intended, as an engagement and wedding rings. Before
marriage they are worn with the crown toward the wrist, after with
the crown opposite.
This traditional friendship or wedding
ring can be given on any occasion and is available in 10k or 14k
yellow or white gold.
